The time has finally come for music’s biggest event of the year, the 67th annual Grammy Awards, which is just around the corner. The announcement has been made by the Recording Academy, revealing the full list of nominations, consisting of various genres and artists. Leading the pack with a whopping nine nominations is SZA, including a nod for Album of the Year for her album “SOS.” Tying in second place with seven nominations each are Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and mixing engineer Serban Ghenea. While eight musicians have landed six nominations each, including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Jack Antonoff, among others.
In addition to the many exciting nominations, several new categories have been added this year, including Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording. The African Music category features many incredible artists such as Asake, Burna Boy, Olamide, and more who represent the growing genre of afrobeats and afropop.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr. expressed his pride for these changes, stating that it reflects their commitment to diversity in musical genres and staying updated with the ever-evolving musical landscape. Ahead of the announcement, Victoria Monét shared her anxiousness on social media, stating that it felt like draft day. Ultimately, she and fellow R&B artist Coco Jones earned multiple nods in categories such as Best R&B Performance and Best New Artist.
