Donald Glover confidently pointed out the disparity in award recognition between Black and White musicians at the BET Awards. Despite being a celebration of Black entertainers and other minorities, Glover noted that he has the same number of BET awards as White musician Sam Smith, despite having more Grammys than Will Smith. Glover made it clear that this lack of recognition for Black artists doesn’t make sense, and he was unapologetic in his criticism. Nevertheless, he paid tribute to Usher and received an award at the ceremony.
