The 4-Star Theater in Grand Rapids, MI, became the epicenter of celebration and culture as Monroe A. O’Bryant’s event, Black Cowboy: The Rise of The Cowgirls, took center stage. This vibrant gathering brought together a diverse crowd for an unforgettable evening filled with line dancing, comedy, live music, and plenty of surprises.
The night kicked off with an exhilarating line dance session, guided by the talented instructor, Queens Justjai. Guests eagerly followed her lead, enjoying the rhythmic and high-energy steps of country and western dance. Laughter was never in short supply, as the hilarious Ladii Jai took the mic to host the event, filling the room with humor and good vibes.
Providing the perfect soundtrack to the evening was none other than PJ Da Dj, who spun a collection of soulful country joints that kept the energy high and the crowd grooving all night long. His music seamlessly blended the best of southern soul with the infectious energy of country tunes, making it impossible for anyone to stay still.
A highlight of the evening was the special appearance of a live horse, graciously provided by Jordan Williams of Urban City Rodeo LLC. The horse was a stunning addition to the event, offering attendees the chance to snap photos and get up close to a symbol of the cowboy culture that was being celebrated.
Adding to the significance of the event, Grander Media and the Doug Sims Live Radio crew were on hand to cover the event and conduct interviews, ensuring that the excitement was shared with an even wider audience. This extra coverage highlighted the growing importance of the Black Cowboy event series and its role in bringing awareness to the often overlooked history of Black cowboys and cowgirls.
This was the second Black Cowboy event, and Monroe A. O’Bryant has big plans to make it an annual tradition. The evening’s success sets the stage for more cultural celebrations and deeper recognition of the contributions Black individuals made to the cowboy legacy.
For those who couldn’t attend, the event will be covered live on Grander Media’s website, www.granderradio.com, starting at 7 AM on Monday, March 3, 2025. Additionally, the event coverage will be available for streaming on Apple Music at the same time, ensuring that everyone can be part of this special celebration, no matter where they are.
Mark your calendars for next year’s Black Cowboy event—it promises to be an even bigger and better celebration of culture, community, and the powerful legacy of Black cowboys and cowgirls.
