Broadway producer Orin Wolf has recently announced that Prince’s iconic 1984 film, “Purple Rain,” will be adapted for the stage. The musical will feature a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and will be directed by Tony nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz. The original screenplay by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn, along with Prince’s unforgettable music and lyrics, will be incorporated into the production. Grossing nearly $100 million worldwide and earning the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score, the film has become a cultural phenomenon that continues to captivate audiences today. Though details regarding the world premiere’s timing and location are yet to be announced, producers L. Londell McMillan and Larry Mestel expressed their enthusiasm for paying tribute to Prince and the “Purple Rain” legacy. Their goal is to introduce a new generation to the power of the film and album and offer fans the chance to experience it live once again.
